Fall means crisp air, warm colors and delicious scents. What’s not to love? We’ve prepared a list of 10 things to do in autumn. So get inspired, and check out all the activities awaiting you - your fall will be instantly more cheerful!

1. Roasting chestnuts

Of the 10 things to do in this lovely season, the first one that comes to mind is this! What else, if not the chestnut, symbolizes autumn best? It’s not just the aroma, but also the color, taste and warmth!

If you live in the city, buy a big bag and prepare a tasty snack in good company. Or, if you prefer, organize a lovely day trip to the countryside or mountains where you can gather chestnuts yourself. In either case, roasting and gorging on chestnuts is great fall fun!

For a unique autumn experience, stay at one of our agriturismi like Badia di Susinana in Palazzuolo sul Senio, Carpineto in Pietrastornina or Draghi in Monterchi, where you can hunt for chestnuts in the farm’s woodlands.

2. Bike riding through fall scenery

Yes, it’s doable! The weather may be colder than in spring, but an outing on two wheels is one of the best ways to savor autumn.

On a bike you can admire the myriad of fall colors, listen to the sounds of leaves falling and smell the damp grass and mushrooms after a rainy day. Plus, peddling in nature rejuvenates body and spirit!

To find the ideal agriturismo for an autumn bike ride, first, choose the region or city in Italy you’d like to visit, then use the filter “Adventure”, "Sports" or "Open air".

3. Admire the autumn leaves

Take a stroll in the crisp outdoors, perhaps while listening to some music or in the company of friends, and marvel at the vibrant autumn palette. Fall only comes once a year so get outside and enjoy it - and don’t forget to take pictures to capture the colorful moment!

To see autumn in all its colorful glory, we suggest visiting Casentino in Tuscany where you can admire the spectacular view from Monte Penna (click here to see our agriturismi in the Casentino area).

4. A treasure hunt for pinecones, acorns and fall leaves

The ideal spots to look for pinecones, acorns and fall leaves are forests, fields and parks. This pastime is bound to delight youngsters, especially when they return home loaded with materials to use for making crafts. Pinecones, for example, can be turned into special centerpieces, while leaves (and lots of patience) can be used to make elegant wreaths to hang on your door.

Some of Italy’s most famous parks include Euganean Hills Park, Etna Park, Pollino National Park and The National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, our farmhouse are ready to host you!

5. Learn how to knit and make your own Christmas presents

When fall arrives it seems like there’s lots of time before Christmas. In reality, the busy holiday season is right around the corner, so it’s a good idea to start getting ready early!

Handmade gifts make wonderful Christmas presents. Do you know how to knit? With some wool and knitting needles you can make Christmas gifts that are sure to be cherished. Plus, you’ll enliven those gloomy grey days when you don’t leave the house.

If you’re unsure how to begin, some of our agriturismi, like Il mulino delle fucine at Casteldelfino, Dimensione natura in the province of Venice and L'Olmo agriturismo di charme in Umbria at Bettona, organize knitting, embroidery, and sewing classes.

6. Carve your own Halloween pumpkin

Halloween, an American holiday of Celtic origin, is now celebrated in Italy, too. To get ready for the October 31st festivity, we suggest carving a big pumpkin as per Halloween tradition. Kids will have a blast decorating the zucca and it will get you in the holiday spirit!

Ah, yes! Do take a look at our special offers! You may find something interesting...

7. Cook with the entire family

Imagine a cold rainy day. What’s better than staying at home and making something yummy with the whole family?

Seasonal ingredients like pumpkins, mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, beets, fennel, potatoes, and chestnuts can be used to make delicious sweet or savory treats!

Would you like to try your hand at something new? Experience a fantastic cooking class in one of uor agrituorisms!

8. Make an album with your summer photos

You’re probably swamped with pictures taken over the summer holiday, whether long vacations seaside or fun-filled weekend getaways. Now’s a great time to print those photos and make an album!

Picture yourself on the sofa with a warm blanket and your loved ones, choosing which pictures to include. Doesn’t that sound nice? It’s even more fun if you make the album yourself. Get some construction paper, markers, tissue paper and ... unleash your imagination!

9. Drink a glass of Italian wine. (Yes, but after harvesting!)

What’s better than savoring a glass of wine (especially red) in front of the fireplace with some roasted chestnuts or dark chocolate? We’ll tell you: drinking a glass from a family winery you’ve just been to!

Many of our farmhouses produce wine and offer tours and tastings, and some even allow guests to help harvest grapes in late summer and early fall.

If that sounds as fun to you as it does to us, then book a stay at Il gioco dell'Oca in Barolo, Cascina boschi in Volta Mantovano and Podere Le Rondini in Montespertoli. What are you waiting for?

10. Take a relaxing warm ginger and cinnamon bath

Here’s our final activity for fall! Treat yourself to a little “me” time and take a warm bath infused with ginger and cinnamon. It’s heavenly!

A warm bath is a great way to relax and unwind after a long day. Did you know that some essential oils help you breathe better, and others can gently hydrate your skin? And don’t forget the ambiance: dim the lights and use some scented candles to make the room even more cozy and inviting.
