Pienza - Località Sant'Anna in Camprena, 53026 Pienza (Siena) Code 052021AAT0008
Inside the Sant’Anna in Camprena monumental complex, this former Olivetan Benedictine monastery from the 15th century is just 6 km from Pienza: the property, imposing and sombre, a place of great beauty and profound spirituality, is located in the charming countryside between the Orcia Valley Park and the Crete Senesi hills.
The rooms, which offer magnificent views, are simply furnished but comfortable. Some are former monastery cells.
The refectory retains a splendid cycle of frescoes (1503) by Antonio Bazzi, known as Sodoma. The Italian-American director Anthony Minghella filmed some of the most famous scenes for the film The English Patient, which won nine Academy Awards, right here.
The restaurant uses some of the farm’s own organic produce: meat and sausages from Cinta Senese pigs, wine, extra virgin olive oil. The dishes are simple, but well-presented and tasty, in keeping with Tuscan country tradition.
The agriturismo specialises in accommodating groups and hosts several art courses: painting, drawing, photography, music. For years, it has worked alongside the “Scuola di Lingua e Cultura Italiana” (School of Italian Language and Culture) in Camprena, which is less than 1 km away and easily reached on foot by students staying at the agriturismo.
The beautiful Churchof Sant’Annaholds important classical music concerts in the summer.
