The Salento area, the local Maldives, is impossible not to mention it as a favourite destination for a holiday in Italy in September. It is a time when you find fewer people, the heat is bearable and the streets and beaches are less crowded.

The Salento is located in southern Puglia, in the heel of the boot of the Peninsula. You can splash around in its wonderful waters of both the Adriatic coast and the Ionian coast. And you can go to a paradise of natural parks, beaches, natural pools and villages that seem painted.

The whole area offers a fascinating landscape with a wild flavor, with its white buildings, the incredible sea and the intoxicating scent of olive groves. Of rural tradition, is characterized by some rural elements that outline the territory, such as the red earth, warm and intense color or low dry stone walls, ie built without the cementing of stones, which in the past were used to delimit the fields, properties and pastures. Or the pajare, that is the ancient houses in the shape of a truncated cone, poor and very simple, built with stone and other materials. The Salento version of the trulli of Alberobello and other areas of Bari or Brindisi.

Not only that, you can also immerse yourself in the local cross-section with many events and shows that enrich the experience. Not to mention all the culinary delights that the region offers. A dive into the truest Puglia to discover a wonderful land that amazes for its immense beauty in all its forms.

Chia is located in a coastal hamlet in the municipality of Domus de Maria, in the extreme south-west of Sardinia, along a breathtaking panoramic road. And it is one of the destinations strongly recommended for a holiday in Italy in September.

This charming resort is renowned for its white beaches and transparent waters. But it's not just the sea. You can also go cycling, hiking or walking along the ancient Roman road that crosses it, where you can enjoy the extremely fascinating corners of the coast. It is also rich in history because it was an important Phoenician and Roman centre, from which it inherited an imposing coastal tower overlooking the coast. From here you can reach a strip of sand populated by dense vegetation and surrounded by an emerald green sea that immediately remains imprinted in the mind and heart.

And then there is a succession of incredible beaches, such as Portao Campana, Sa Tuerra, the beach of su Sali and that of su Giudeu, so beautiful that it has been chosen several times as the setting for commercials and films. A long stretch of sand surrounded by high dunes covered with juniper trees and populated by the pond of Spartivento, a precious natural oasis. To the western end where there is the most sheltered beach of Cala Cipolla, reachable only on foot.

Inland there is the green expanse of Is Cannoneris, an oasis for hikers. All crossed by hiking trails that dominate the entire territory.

If you are a lover of the mountains, a travel advice in Italy in September is to explore the area around the Sibillini Mountains. A mountain range situated between Umbria and the Marches shrouded in mystery. In fact, it seems that here there was the cave of the Sibilla Cumana, the pagan fairy who accompanied Aeneas into the underworld and that has fed many legends.

A magical place not only for the mythological halo that surrounds it, but also for the undisputed beauty of the landscapes.

The Sibillini Mountains National Park covers more than 70 thousand hectares and is an explosion of pure nature. Rich in rivers and streams, with narrow gorges and high, waterfalls, valleys that alternate steep climbs to gentle descents. A vast and different territory where you can move on foot, on horseback or by bike, fly with the hang glider or paraglider, climb on rock and ice, or make interesting guided tours to discover this incredible and valuable territory. In addition to walks through flora and fauna, if you are an expert hiker, you cannot miss the Grande Anello dei Sibillini (Big Ring of the Sibyllines), a 120-kilometre route, divided into stages, to be covered on horseback or by mountain bike. Or Lake Piato, on Mount Vettore, the highest lake in the chain. A lake with a surreal spectacle shape that, according to legend, here lies Ponzio Pilato, sentenced to death by Tiberius. Then there are the marvellous Infernaccio Gorges, which rise from the river Tenna and stand out among rocks, woods and waterfalls.

Not only that, around this area, there are many characteristic medieval villages, which rise in the middle of the countryside and are perfectly preserved. Not to be missed, with stone walls that enclose a network of small streets and stairways, elegant buildings and squares with refined architecture that look like living rooms.

Another unparalleled mountain destination recommended in Italy in September is the beautiful Park of the Maritime Alps, on Monte Argentera. It is located in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont, in the upper Gesso Valley. The Park is one of the largest protected areas in Italy and where, therefore, you can find a wide variety of flora and fauna, with specimens more unique than rare around the world.

There are several routes that reach valleys, prairies, glaciers and lakes, climb peaks even above 3000 meters above sea level and allow you to go trekking through the valleys of the park between Italy and France. A special and spectacular connection with nature. There are more than 80 lakes that dot the territory, more or less large or remote, embedded in the mountains, artificial or surpassed by historic dams. Walking in these places is magic. Not only because you are surrounded by greenery but because you can follow history: from the medieval salt roads, the hunting mule tracks of the ancient Royal Reserve and the military roads of the Second World War.

An extraordinary environment of flora and fauna, with incredible views. All these various routes are perfect for all tastes, marked in their distance and altitude. For a choice that suits everyone, from families with children, to the most experienced and demanding hikers.

Let's go back to the sea, to the wonderful Sicily that often, during the high season, offers prohibitive prices. For this reason it is ideal to visit in September, when the sun is still warm, but not hot and nature shows itself in all its beauty.

The region lends itself to a tourism of sea, history and archaeology between the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, the prestigious cities that distinguish it as Palermo, Catania or Syracuse. The territory is varied with mountains, hills and plains, as well as agriculture among olive trees and vines, the cultivation of vegetables, grasses and fruit trees among figs, almonds and walnuts.

A fabulous hinterland, to discover and visit in every corner, but not only, there are also its special islands and unparalleled.

Like the archipelago of the Pelagie islands, formed by Lampedusa, Linosa and the uninhabited islet of Lampione, rich in spectacular scenery recognized throughout the world. The crystal clear sea and the beautiful jagged or sandy beaches, the variety of fish and the territory make it a small paradise with a unique atmosphere.

The white Lampedusa is the largest of the three islands and is closer to the Tunisian coast than the Italian ones. This is why it has a typically tropical flora and fauna. You can in fact meet desert landscapes with a few palms and wonderful seabeds with rare fish. An essential landscape with an amazing sea with crystal clear waters.

The black Linosa is a small island of volcanic origin north of Lampedusa. It is populated by about a hundred inhabitants who live all year round in the midst of unspoilt nature and lush, with beautiful expanses of prickly pears. Unforgettable scenarios where the most absolute peace and quiet reigns.

In addition, September is the perfect month to explore the cultural and folkloric regional discovery with the many festivals, festivals and local events.

A lake with blue shades, a jewel set between mighty peaks and lush forests, we speak of Lake Tenno, a treasure of pure and true pleasure. It was born from a landslide on the hill of Ville del Monte, in the province of Trento, near the beautiful village of Canale di Tenno, one of the most beautiful in Italy, which can be reached through an ancient mule track.

The lake has a round shape, an area of 195 square meters and is located at 570 meters above sea level, at the foot of Mount Misone. Its surroundings are an ecstasy for the senses, offering spectacular views and landscapes that will leave you breathless. In the middle of the lake there is a small island called Island 86, from the year it appeared on the surface. In winter it is submerged and only the trees can be seen, while in summer it reappears and can be reached on foot.

In the lake you can take a relaxing swim and stop to sunbathe or walk in the comfortable pebble and grass beaches that are around. A characteristic note is the variety of intensity and nuances of its waters that change depending on the season.

From the lake you can also do many walks and excursions along the ring that develops from the village of Canale to the refuge of San Pietro. Many beauties to discover, among which we advise you not to miss the Varone waterfall and the Varone Waterfall Cave Park.

Visually, it offers an infinite variety of landscapes between romantic coves, cliffs overlooking the sea, beaches of fine white sand or rocky bays and solitary. Many of them are still little known and are in the wild.

The famous beaches of Capo Rizzuto, Caminia, Capo Vaticano, Diamante, Roccella Jonica or Tropea, are all scenarios that you can enjoy in full relaxation between the sweet and unspoiled nature and the immense flavors and genuine local cuisine.

And as for all the beautiful Italy, there are certainly historical, artistic and cultural roots to be exploited in a holiday of enchantment.
