The agriturismo

Situated at an altitude of about 350 metres, the Agriturismo offers an oasis of peace among the hills and gullies of Riosto, in an uncontaminated nature just a few kilometres from Bologna. The structure is situated on the hills of Pianoro in the hamlets of Casalino, Torre and Carvulla in the territory formerly known as "A Riosto" which in 1200 belonged to the ancestors of the illustrious Ludovico Ariosto.

In Carvulla the guests are welcomed in 5 mini-apartments and in Casalino in 1 small villa wisely restructured and surrounded by the green.

In close synergy with the winery Podere Riosto that produces DOC and DOCG wines of the Colli Bolognesi and organizes tastings.

The accommodation

At I Calanchi di Riosto guests are welcomed in 5 2-bed apartments and a 4-bed cottage that have been tastefully renovated and furnished in antique style.

It offers large outdoor spaces for relaxation with spectacular views of the hills, vineyards and the beautiful gully of Riosto. All the apartments have a kitchenette, a nice living room with a relaxing corner with sofa and satellite TV, double bedroom and private bathroom.

New:

  • Ideal for a quiet relaxation surrounded by greenery with the new Jacuzzi with heated water and swimming pool for swimming against the current, in Carvulla.

  • Ideal for adults and children, to play outdoors with friends in the new multipurpose field for soccer / volleyball / beach tennis with synthetic grass, at Casalino.

  • Air conditioned

The Agriturismo I Calanchi di Riosto is proposed in close synergy with the winery Podere Riosto that produces DOC and DOCG wines of the Colli Bolognesi. We offer wine tastings and guided tours of the winery, the barrique cellar and the vineyards.

In the Tasting Room in Torre we organize special events: communions, weddings, graduation parties, conventions and business meetings as well as guided tastings with explanations of food and wine pairings.

Activities and surrounding

Mountainbike
Starting from Podere Torre you can make mountain bike tours with routes of 3 - 5 - 10 km with beautiful views of vineyards and gullies in unspoiled nature.

Trekking
You can make walks trying to meet the needs of different difficulty and commitment. The woods and vineyards will allow you to disconnect from stress and noise with the accompaniment of an expert guide of botany and geology or our complete map of the tracks.

The Ariosto family and Riosto
The territory of the Calanchi di Riosto was once the Municipality of Riosto with the Church, the Cemetery, the school, the tavern and the village scattered over the territory. Today remain only the ruins of the Palace of Riosto, destroyed during the 2nd World War. This territory was a feud of the Ariosti family and Ludovico Ariosto's ancestors descended from here.

Molino del Pero Golf Course (20 km away) - a sports centre
18-hole course, technical, fun and varied. Situated in the magnificent hilly environment of the Bolognese Apennines, it perfectly combines the needs of the most technical player with those of those who see golf as a way to fully enjoy the surrounding environment.

El Paso Riding Centre (9 Km away)
It organizes wonderful walks, even for beginners, in the Hills of Riosto under the expert guidance of Francesco De Rosa.

Every Sunday morning (from 10 am to 12 am), two hours of entertainment designed specifically to bring children in a playful way to the magical world of horses.

Farneto Cave (8 Km away)
The Farneto Cave is the most famous cave of the chalk karst system in the Savena, Idice and Zena Valleys. It is an important prehistoric site which lies within the Gessi Bolognesi and Calanchi dell'Abbadessa Regional Park.

Monte Bibele and the "Luigi Fantini" Archaeological Museum (25 Km away)
Situated between the Idice and Zena valleys, the massif of Monte Bibele has given us the important remains of an Etruscan-Celtic settlement, preserved in the "Luigi Fantini" Archaeological Museum. The exhibition, which houses the most complete collection of Celtic materials in the region, is one of the most important in Italy.

Etruscan town of Misa (18 Km away)
The Etruscan City of Misa in Marzabotto, discovered in the second half of 1800, reveals the religion, culture and social life of the Etruscans. The remains of this ancient Etruscan city are preserved in the Archaeological Museum "Pompeo Aria".

Bologna (25 km)
La Dotta, la Rossa and la Grassa: this is how Bologna, the capital of the rich Emilia Romagna, is defined. Bologna la Dotta (the Learned) for the presence of the oldest University in the world. Bologna la Rossa (the Red) for the colour of its roofs, porticoes and houses, which keep alive the typical colours of the Middle Ages. Bologna la Grassa (Fat) for its tasty and sublime gastronomy: Bolognese cuisine is known throughout the world and has conquered even the most severe palates.

Guglielmo Marconi Villa Griffone (14 Km away)
Villa Griffone in Sasso Marconi was the residence of Guglielmo Marconi and today is the seat of the Foundation and the Museum Guglielmo Marconi. The Marquis Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937) was a great Italian physicist and inventor. Known for being the first to develop an effective system of communication with telegraphy via radio waves that obtained a wide diffusion. Evolutions of this system led to the development of modern radio communication systems such as television and radio.

Dozza - Sforzesca Fortress (50 Km away)
It was built in the late 15th century by Caterina Sforza, Lady of Imola and Dozza. The current appearance of the Rocca is the result of the transformation of the purely military structure into a noble palace. In addition to visiting the Castle, the cellars house the headquarters of the Enoteca Regionale Emilia Romagna, suitable for tasting regional wines, including ours.

Beautifully located farm in the middle of vineyards. For activities, the farm is unfortunately a bit high, which made bike tours at high temperatures unfortunately almost impossible.
The apartments were spacious and good in themselves. Unfortunately here, as well as on the... Read more

With my wife and son we spent 30, 31 October and 1 November in Bologna and this time, instead of struggling to find a B & B in the city, we wanted to try to get away on the hills of Bologna. A few minutes from Bologna on the Via della Futa, in a picturesque landscape and pict... Read more

Hi, I am Cristiana and I am 53 years old.
I have been managing I Calanchi di Riosto since 2012 along with my family.
As well as we welcome the guests, we are responsible for communication.
It was a desire to to pursue a passion which led me to run an agriturismo.
According to the guests, the best thing about our agriturismo is the chance to stay in a natural setting.
