Excellent starting point for visits, excursions and many activities to discover the Southern Piedmont (Turin, Langhe “the land of wine”, Royal residence of Racconigi, ecc.). ABBAZIA DI STAFFARDA - Dedicated to the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary, it was built by the Cistercian monks called, in 1135, by the Marquis of Saluzzo Manfredo I to reclaim the wooded marsh of the? Staffarda ?. REVELLO - Agricultural center of the Po Valley, located to the left of the broad outlet in the plain of the great river, on the south-eastern slopes of Mount Bracco. For many centuries it belonged to the Marquises of Saluzzo and then passed to the Savoy in 1601. Of the medieval age remain, on the hill overlooking the village, the ruins of the castle, while in excellent condition is the fort of Bramafam. Numerous and in part still well preserved are the evidence of the fifteenth-century architectural development due to the initiative of Ludovico II of Saluzzo. Recommended visits: *) Marchionale Chapel? It is located in the center of the town, on the first floor of the building that now houses the Town Hall, once the summer residence of the Marquises of Saluzzo. Jewel of the? late-Gothic architecture, entirely frescoed by a series of paintings dedicated to the patron saints of the Marquises of Saluzzo attributed to the Flemish painter Hans Clemer between 1516 and 1519. On the back wall stands a fresco depicting "The Last Supper"? of Leonardesque inspiration. Also noteworthy are the marble sculptures of the keystones and capitals. *) Colleggiata? at the foot of the hill, its construction was granted by Pope Sixtus IV in 1483. The style of the church is substantially late-Gothic with pointed arches, cross vaults and windows adorned with stained glass windows; inside there are sixteenth-century polyptychs, some fine eighteenth-century and nineteenth-century paintings, a fine baptismal font in sculpted gray marble, the seventeenth-century wooden pulpit and monumental organ. *) Campanile of the Hours? bell tower where stood the church of S. Maria la Canonica; excellent panoramic point. *) Museum of the Po River? the Park of Po Cuneese boasts a very rich nature, thanks to the presence of water over its entire extension and thanks above all to the large altitude excursion that characterizes it. The Naturalistic Museum of the Po Park facilitates the meeting with the river's environment and proposes it in a scientific light and at the same time aesthetic that makes it possible to appreciate its environmental riches. SALUZZO - Former capital of the fourteenth century Marquisate of the same name, from 1142 to 1601 when it passed to the Savoy, Saluzzo is one of the most fascinating cities in Piedmont and has retained the characteristics of different eras in the urban structure, especially in its historic center, spread out in a fan on the hill and originally enclosed by a double circle of walls. Overlooked by the imposing Castiglia, the village is all a succession of narrow cobbled streets, steep steps, churches and elegant noble palaces with loggias and roof terraces, gathered around hidden gardens. Silvio Pellico was born here, a Carbonaro writer famous for having written "My Prisons". Saluzzo is one of the most exclusive Italian centers of antiques, furniture and restoration. *) CASTIGLIA - the ancient castle of the Marquis of Saluzzo (the upper house), built in 1270, used as a prison in the early 1800s, today home to various permanent museums and exhibitions. *) CHURCH OF SAN GIOVANNI - (XIII-XVI century) is one of the most representative Gothic buildings of the period of the marquisate. *) CASA CAVASSA - stately home of the sec. XV and XVI, it was restored at the end of 800 and transformed into a Civic Museum. There are exposed furnishings, frescoes and paintings from different historical periods. *) PELLIC HOUSE? Located in Piazzetta dei Mondagli, one of the most evocative corners of the historic center, one enters through the Porta di S. Maria (1379) and the medieval via dei Portici scuri along the ancient Bishop's Palace. *) CIVIC TOWER? built in 1462 as a symbol of the city community, with its 48 meters of height is an exceptional vantage point over the city, the plain and the circle of Monviso. *) CLIMBING TO THE CASTLE? the ancient? stalls ?, center of social and economic life of the Marquisate defined by elegant noble palaces (15th century) marked by loggias, porticoes, frescoes and decorations, in a harmonious continuum that includes the ancient Mint, La Casa Bassa dei Marchesi, the Palace of Liberal Arts, the ancient Palazzo Comunale.
