The heritage-protected “Gurtenhof” estate - a Tyrolean style manor - you will stay at a historical farm and can enjoy the flair of the past. Once upon a time earls and priests used to reside in this 600-year-old building.
The estate, which has always been family property, has been restored with great attention to detail and is equipped with all modern amenities. It therefore represents a special recreation home in South Tyrol.
It is recommended to anyone who looks for peace but does not want to miss out on style, individuality and a special kind of luxury.
The Gurtenhof estate has been refurbished with a lot of attention to detail and the historic basic structure of the building was treated respectfully.
All four of the refurbished apartments have their own charm and style and were named after a historic personality of the region.
Furthermore, the rambling walls offer lots to discover. There is an entrance hall with historic cobblestone, a cozy parlor called “Katharinastube” where you can browse books next to an open fire and a typical South Tyrolean “Törggelekeller” - a cellar with natural stone walls where wine is drunk and sweet chestnuts are eaten. You will also find a nostalgic playroom for kids as well as a romantic garden to relax and enjoy breakfast. In addition, there is our newly created alpine spa area with trees and hay beds.
Join an excursion to our alpine hut and share a typical South Tyrolean afternoon snack that includes cold meats, cheese and bread. Be active in the fresh air for a day by collecting mushrooms, wood and herbs, by mowing hay or simply by enjoying nature’s beauty.
Visit a herb farm in the Ultental valley.
Get to know the beneficial effect of herbs (mint, Melissa, etc.) during a tour through the herb garden. Afterwards the produce is tasted (e.g. herb teas).
Soak up tranquility and nature’s sounds or observe animals and enjoy spectacular views during evening walks through the Hippolyt habitat, finally reaching the St. Hippolyt church erected on a hill also known as Tyrol’s Acropolis.
The summer is the ideal time of the year to be active. You can ramble through blossoming fruit orchards, hike to alpine meadows or walk along “Waalwege” – typical South Tyrolean walking trails near water channels. You can climb peaks or engage in Nordic walking. By riding along the various bike paths, forest trails and mountain passes, mountain bikers and cyclists definitely get their money’s worth. Golf aficionados can play at the 9-hole golf course in Lana . In the Passeiertal valley and in Sarnonico there are two more 18-hole golf courses. Horse lovers are in good hands at the Sempash riding stables in Tesimo. And those of you who love action can spend their time climbing, paragliding or rafting.
If you fancy cooling off, go for a dip in a pond named Hippolyter Weiher, the swimming pool of Tesimo, the ecological swimming pool in Gargazzone or other pools close by.
You can also spend time with your hosts who once a week accompany their guests on a hike to their alpine pasture in the Ultental valley. And those of you who are in the mood can help with the apricot harvest.
When it starts getting chilly outside, you can look forward to a get-together in a warm parlor. One event you should not miss out on when being in South Tyrol is the so called “Törggelen”. In our own “Törggele” cellar we roast sweet chestnuts, drink wine and eat Speck – a special South Tyrolean mountain ham. Autumn is sweet chestnut season in Tesimo. Experience the sweet chestnut hikes and sweet chestnut weeks yourself that take place around that time. You can learn about wine production and obviously do some tasting in the local wineries.
During the winter snow-shoe hiking and cross-country skiing are popular activities. However, you can also go skiing on the slopes in the Ultental valley or at Merano 2000 . Those of you who prefer peace and quiet should opt for the Vigiljoch mountain.
