San Martino, 23, 39030 Valle di Casies (Bolzano) Code
An agriturismo in the Gsies Valley, the ideal spot for a restful, relaxing break amidst unspoilt nature, in the Alps, at 1300 metres altitude, right at the start of the Verselltal trail, and close to cross-country skiing. The agriturismo is part of a farm with animals and pastures stretching as far as the eye can see.
Kuhnehof offers 4 guest apartments in typical alpine style, with all the modern comforts you could need. The romantic, peaceful apartments each comprise a kitchen (with crockery, microwave, electric oven and dishwasher), a lounge, bedroom and bathroom. Safes, hairdryers, satellite TV and telephones are also available, and on request, you can enjoy breakfast and dinner (half-board) at the historic Gasthof Kahnwirt (also run by the Kahn family). Once a week in summer, the agriturismo offers a traditional day with a barbecue out on the farm’s pastures.
On arrival, you’ll receive a delicious plate of mixed fruit as a welcome gift.
Farm produce, such as fresh cow's milk, yoghurt, bread, speck, honey and homemade items such as speck dumplings, cheese, apple strudel and more, can be purchased directly at the Kahnwirt hotel (which also belongs to the family).
The agriturismo is just a few minutes on foot from the Kahnwirt** traditional inn, the nearest church and the town centre (where you’ll find a Despar convenience store with bakery, bank, post office, information centre, and pharmacy). The panorama of the Dolomites extends around you, right to the glaciers with their hiking and mountain biking trails. In summer you can visit mountain “malga” refuges and sample cheese, homemade speck, salami and traditional South Tyrol snacks.
In winter you’ll find wonderful cross-country skiing, with over 40 km of pistes, some illuminated, as well as the Plan de Corones resorts nearby for downhill runs. Ski lessons are available for all abilities, and you can also purchase a seasonal subscription to Superski, Skirama Plan de Corones and Alta Pusteria, with over 200 km of slopes. The Ski Pustertal Express train will transport you to the pistes with no need to use your car.
The Val Pusteria Mountaineering School can provide guides to help you explore the mountain passes as you ski, from Villgraten in the Gsies Valley or from Valle d’Anterselva to Defreggen. You can also enjoy sledging (available free of charge from Kuhnehof), or take a cable car to the mountain baitas of Monte Elmo, Baranci and Plan de Corones.
