Borgo la Fratta is located in Barberino di Mugello, a hilly area near Florence, in the territory of the ancient Medici family.

The Borgo itself is an ancient hunting lodge of the Medici family, restored with care in every detail and entirely made of stone. It is divided into two buildings, with a large park, partly dedicated to the individual houses and partly available to all customers.

The atmosphere is that of a comfortable and refined country farmhouse, with elegantly furnished rooms that respect the Tuscan tradition and panoramic swimming pool with solarium.

In Borgo La Fratta you can spend your days relaxing in the comfortable apartments, in the garden or by the pool, enjoying the superb view of Lake Bilancino, the largest lake in Tuscany.

All apartments, recently restored, while maintaining the spirit and character of the typical Tuscan rural construction, are equipped with all comforts: color TV, fridge with freezer, single heating, bathroom with shower, kitchenette, safe, garden with umbrella, table and chairs. Some are also equipped with fireplace or wood stove. The furniture is very nice, respecting the Tuscan rustic style and architectural features of the house.

The rooms are also cosy and comfortable, furnished with wooden furniture or wrought iron beds.

It was 1973 when my father decided to buy a house in the Mugello hills. It was the summer residence for my family, that is for mother, father, my sister Chiara and my brother Andrea, and for all the group of friends who loved to spend their Sundays in happiness.

I was not born yet, but in 1976 I arrived too and from spring onwards we enjoyed the countryside, the stream and the animals in Mugello.

1991: Things changed in Mugello: the Bilancino Lake arrived, a big artificial lake, but so well designed that it seemed natural with the hills that were reflected in it and the blue of the Lake that mixed with the green of the vegetation.

The inhabitants of Florence, Prato and Pistoia immediately began to frequent it, and they noticed the beauty and enjoyment of this place.

And my father fell in love with it too, buying a former Medici hunting lodge right on the shores of this lake. The house was a ruin with plants in it and a thicket around it. My father was then 60 years old and was tired, having started working at 14, but not enough to cultivate this dream ..... put Borgo la Fratta and make it a place of relaxation and beauty ..... He worked for 8 years!!!!!!

The difficulties were enormous for the authorizations, the laborious and very expensive jobs, but it was his dream. Every small stone was recovered, stuccoed, the choice of materials was shrewd so as not to ruin a poetic and imposing whole with these sealing walls, the large beams, the buttresses. And around recover the agricultural area with fruit trees, hedges and meadows. And here I too have given my contribution by raising vitalbe, brambles and ivy that grew above the great oaks and risked breaking them. I tried to furnish the apartments with the taste of a typical farmhouse, but with the comfort of an apartment.

2007: We have finished the other apartments and finished the swimming pool.

She was beautiful!!!!! The customers were enthusiastic about it, it seemed that from the pool to touch the lake because the view from the solarium of the pool was a window on the lake.

Customers were also happy because they had everything: Lake, green, 5 minutes to reach the entrance to the highway and go to Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, Lucca, 5 minutes to have great restaurants, shopping at Designer Outler, 15 minutes to go to the Mugello Circuit and Poggio dei Medici golf club.

What about Florence? 25 minutes by car and 40 minutes by train...great.

Is it possible that my father's dream has also become my dream? Maybe I've been around a lot, but in the end my childhood in Mugello was the experience that gave me more peace and more well-being.... these woods, this land, so ancient and so rich in flavours and above all true even in the rigidity of its winters, with the clear air and the snow-covered Apennines....it's pure poetry.

Starting from the holiday home you can visit the main towns of Tuscany and all the towns of Mugello. Florence is just 20 minutes by car, Lucca 1 hour, Pisa, Siena and San Gimignano just over an hour, Bologna 45 min.

The proximity to Florence allows our guests to spend the day there and then rest in the wonderful quiet of Mugello. In the area there are plenty of opportunities for shopping (Designer outlet), sports facilities (Poggio dei Medici golf club, Mugello Circuit) and hiking trails.

The property extends over three hectares where dwelling roe deer and squirrels among ancient oaks and ancient varieties of fruit trees, guests can relax, sunbathe, walk, see animals, cook in the large wood-burning oven made of pietra serena, have picnics and let children play in complete safety.

It is possible to rent mountain bikes for pleasant walks along the lake or admire the beautiful views that lead to the superb Medici residences of Cafaggiolo or Castello del Trebbio, just a few kilometers away. Near Borgo la Fratta you can rent canoes and windsurfing to experience the lake in a relaxing and fun way.

From summer 2009, by appointment, you can also dine in the new restaurant on the lake.
