Tourist tax
From 1 July 2011, the City of Florence established the tourist tax with the City Council Resolution No. 230/33 of 06/20/2011, supplemented by Resolution No. 21/2012.
The tax is applied to the overnight stays of non-resident guests in the Municipality of Florence and for a maximum of 7 consecutive nights. The tax rate for this accommodation facility is 3,50 € per person per night.
The following exemptions are foreseen:
a) minors up to the age of 12;
b) subjects who assist inpatients admitted to local health facilities, including day hospital, for a maximum of two accompanying persons per patient;
c) patients who undergo hospital treatment on a day hospital basis;
d) students enrolled at the University of Florence;
e) personnel belonging to the police, the national body of firefighters and civil protection who, for exclusive service needs, and limited to the duration of the same, stay in the accommodation facilities in the municipal area;
f) the severely handicapped, whose disability condition is certified pursuant to art. 3 paragraph 3 of Law 104/92 and similar provisions of the countries of origin for foreign citizens;
g) the employees of the accommodation facilities who stay there for exclusive work needs.
There is also a 50% reduction in the tourist tax in the following cases:
a) school groups of lower and upper secondary schools on educational visits;
b) sportsmen under the age of 16, members of sports groups participating in initiatives and tournaments organized in collaboration with the Municipal Administration.
