The agriturismo
Il Poderuccio is a small agriturismo, or farmhouse, situated in the picturesque hills of the Val d'Orcia, one kilometre from the historic centre of Pienza (it is possible to reach us in 15 minutes by foot). The farmhouse is set against a landscape reminiscent of some of the beautifully evocative images of the film "Gladiator".
The accommodation
Il Poderuccio is a small family-run Agriturismo. When it was restored, our family asked this question: "If we were tourists, what environment would we like to find?" Thus was born the idea for 4 individual apartments, of around 50 metre square, simply furnished with respect to the traditions and with much attention to detail.
"Il Pino", "Il Gelsomino" and "Il Melograno" are ideal for 2 people, and are each composed of built-in kitchen, living room, double bedroom and bathroom.
"Il Mandorlo" is suitable for 4 people, having the same facilities as the others but with an additional bedroom.
In the garden that surrounds the Agriturismo we have constructed a stone barbecue for the availability of our guests.
Next to the Agriturismo is our little restaurant which seats 12 and is available exclusively for our guests.
Our main house is located approximately 50 metres from the Agriturismo and is separated by an area where our farm birds and animals can be safely viewed by our small guests.
Activities and surrounding
The farm is located within the confines of the Parco Naturale e Artistico of the Val d'Orcia: this is the only area of Italy (and maybe the world) that has been awarded recognition as a World Heritage area by UNESCO by meeting two criteria. In fact, both the Val d'Orcia, (which includes Pienza, together with other gracious villages), and Pienza, which is thought to be the most ideal town of the Renaissance, are considered important World Heritage sites.
Our farm produces olive oil, saffron and wheat. Many of our products are used in the typical recipes of Tuscany that can be tasted in our little agriturismo restaurant. We prepare all our own pasta, as well as the pastries and jams for your breakfast.
Our guest mountain bike is available, at no extra cost, for excursions in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Besides Pienza, you can visit other medieval towns and villages of the Val d'Orcia, such as Monticchiello (3km), Bagni Vignoni (4km), San Quirico d'Orcia (8km), Montepulciano (15km) and Montalcino (23km). The beautiful Siena is a mere 40km from Pienza, and Florence.
You could also indulge yourself in the sulphuric thermal pools of Bagni San Filippo or enjoy the fresh air of the woods of Monte Amiata on a warm summers day (in less than half an hour by car you can reach the top).

Simple but clean lodging. Erica was friendly and accommodating. The restaurant on the property was so excellent. Walking distance to Pienza, but you really need a car if you want to do any of the major tourist attractions/destinations.
