The farm is located in Ostia Parmense in the Province of Parma, around 400 metres above sea level and just 5 km from the regional capital Valtaro (Borgotaro) on the banks of the Taro River, where it crosses the Cogena creek: a region which is one of Italy’s major porcini mushroom producers, recognised on a European level, a certified PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) Mushroom Zone.
The Taro Valley stands in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines between Parma, famous city of art, and La Spezia in Liguria.
Nearby you'll find the Castles of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza (Bardi, Compiano, Fontanellato…) , the stunning Baptistery and the Parma Art Gallery, the Maria Luigia Museum, the Bedonia Planetarium, the “Oasi dei Ghirardi” WWF park, the Cento Laghi Park and the Filiberti company who specialise in working with Carniglia Stone.
For those who love outdoor sports, the region is home to a wealth of signposted CAI pathways (Club Alpino Italiano, Italian Alpine Club), with links to the “Grande Escursione Appenninica” trail. Guests can also explore the “Ippovia dell'Appennino Parmense” bridleway and the Via Francigena on foot or on horseback, or why not enjoy a spot of fishing in one of the local rivers or lakes?
There are also wonderful food and wine trails to discover ancient flavours and typical local produce, with tours of dairies, cured meat producers and wine cellars.
In autumn guests can gather porcini mushrooms and chestnuts.
