Agriturismo Il Poggio dell'Artilla

Il Poggio d'Artilla (Artilla's Hill) is a gracious inn on a working farm. Il Poggio is an “agriturismo”, or tourist farm, located in the Tuscia region of Italy, land of the mysterious Etruscan civilization that predated the Roman Empire. Tuscia is at the  center of three major geographic regions—Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany. This very advantagious location offers guests a convenient place from which to visit some of the best of Italy's typical artistic centers and numerous natural and archeological wonders.

The agriturismo is operated by a skilled sommelier, who tends her own vinyard. She also cultivates seven hectares of olive orchard composed of ancient trees that produce a premium extra-virgin olive oil. As you stroll through the property, bounded in part by native spotifyforest rich in vegetation, you can explore fascinating “tufo” (volcanic stone) caves, presumably of the Etruscan period, in which it is possible to relive what were once the living and working conditions of local farmers until after the Second World War.

As a guest it is possible to participate in wine and cheese tasting, techniques of wine making and food preparation, including fruit juices, jams, preserves, cheese, pasta, bread and liquors. Also offered are courses in environmental education and medicinal and aromatic herbs.

The owner has outdone herself in creating a productive and attractive farm and the atmosphere at Il Poggio d'Artilla is welcoming and receptive. 

The country house, completely immersed in nature, is located on a height which dominates the landscape made of fascinating drops and many trees of olive. Its characteristic structure in tuff and white rocks was renovated with premium materials and furnished with taste and simplicity to render the atmosphere familiar and welcoming.

The farmhouse is set on two floors. On the ground floor there is a living room with a stone fireplace, a large kitchen and a bedroom with two twin beds and a bathroom, accessible to disabled persons. On the second floor one can find four bedrooms (doubles and triples), each with its own bathroom. From all rooms you can enjoy a splendid view of all the surrounding hills.

Close to the farmhouse there is a small and charming independent apartment (4 places) composed of master bedroom, living room with cooking area, fireplace and sofa-bed and one bathroom.

Available to all the guests there's also a comfortable swimming pool, accessible for guests of every accomodations, placed on a picturesque panoramic spot. 

Finally, an original mongolian yurt is available as space for group activities or experiment alternative ways of living.

The farmhouse offers the opportunity to rediscover ancients tastes through recipes where an equilibrate combination of flavors and natural organic products can be found.         

In the farm, the products are made with care, in respect o nature and are all organic. Without the use of any chemical substances, the owners produce: fruit jams, extra fine virgin olive oil made with millstone and cold baling, wine grapes. Only for guests are available the products of the organic livestock farming and vegetable garden, the tomatoes sauces and oil preserves, bread, cheese and pasta.          

The activities organized by the farm include: tasting of wines and cheeses, celebrations and banquets (the farm offers various possibilities for those who choose to celebrate a special occasion or for those who want to organize a family reunion), nice cocktail in the garden and pool, nice dinners on the patio or in the cozy living room. Also available are food and wine combination classes, cheese-making classes, courses to learn how to make home-made pasta or jams. 

Guests can also enjoy walking tours to discover local herbs for the preparation of dishes.

During spring and autumn there is also the possibility to join our yoga retreats! 

Numerous are the natural and cultural sites that the area offers.

The farmhouse is located a few kilometers from the beaches of the Bolsena lake, where it is possible topractice surfing, water skiing, and sailing and from the natural pools of thermal water of the famous Terme dei Papi of Viterbo. In the immediate vicinity one can practice sportive fishing, take walks in the mountain and the river, visit the Parco dei Mostri of Bomarzo, the Valley dei Calanchi, the Oasis of Alviano, the natural park of the Vico Lake, the natural reserve of Monte Rufeno, the thermal springs of Bullicame, the Woods of Lamone, and the Gardnes of Villa Lante.

This being the land of the Etruscans, one can visit the tomb of Vulci, the necropolis of Norchia and Castel d'Asso not to mention the museums rich with artifacts of the age like that of Tarquinia, in addition to the roman theater of Ferrento, the amphitheater of Sutri, etc.

It is possible to discover the streets of the splendid medieval hamlets, to visit the small but centers like Acquapendente, Bolsena, Caprarola, Civita di Bagnoregio, Castiglione in Teverina, Civitella díAgliano, Montefiascone, Vitorchiano, Ronciglione, Sutri, Tuscania, Pitigliano; one is only a short distance from Orvieto, Viterbo, Todi, Pienza e Tarquinia.
