Cavriana has maintained its original structure of a fortified village dominated from above by the mighty fortress and is characterized by the presence of two important historical and environmental emergencies: the park of Villa Mirra and the Romanesque church of the Pieve, connected by a pedestrian path. Villa Mirra houses the Archaeological Museum in which is collected the rich Romanesque material recovered during excavations and discoveries. The parish church is one of the most important monuments of the upper Mantua area, dating back to the XI century. Inside there are frescoes dating back to the fourteenth century and outside there is a beautiful panorama that stretches as far as the Apennines.
Cavriana has two important festivities: S. Biagio Fair - 3rd February - is the patron saint's feast day which is very much felt by the townspeople and is characterised by the typical cake; Palio della CapraD'oro (Golden Goat Palio)- second Sunday in July - is an event which develops in two moments: a parade of the districts in Renaissance clothes and a goat race.
We also recommend a visit to Mantua, where you can visit the Gonzaga residences: Palazzo Te with its frescoes by Mantenga, Palazzo Ducale and the Basilica of S. Andrea; Borghetto and Valeggio sul Mincio, two adjacent villages, just a few kilometres from the hotel, which can be reached by crossing the historic and imposing Visconti bridge. Borghetto is situated on the banks of the Mincio River, which you can cycle along. Valeggio is known for its very large and majestic Security Park; Verona, an important city for its historical monuments, such as the Arena, and remembered as the place that was the setting for the famous Shakesperian tragedy of Romeo and Juliet; Lake Garda and its attractions, Peschiera, Gardaland, Caneva, Lazise.
