Loc. S. Margherita, 25, Castiglion Fiorentino 52043 Castiglion Fiorentino (Arezzo) Code 051012AAT0025
The agritourism rises in Val di Chio, an old mill that was already in the valley maps in 1600; completely renovated with a great view over the village and over the surrounding hills in a quiet typically Tuscan agricultural environment.
The agritourism consists of a single unit located at the centre of the valley, surrounded by hills where it is possible to admire olive groves and vineyards terraces along with Mediterranean bushes. Plunged into a 5-hectare ground used for biological cultivations and vegetables, it also produces Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Valdichiana D.O.C. Red Wine.
The facility is divided into two floors: on the upper floor, reachable through a typical stone stair, there lies a covered small loggia from which it is possible to admire Castiglion Fiorentino village. From the loggia it is possible to access the two flats: Melo in Fiore and Glicine Giallo (3-5 beds each) of mq 65; they are equipped with a wide kitchen-living-room, bedroom, bathroom; they are all equipped with period furniture.
Iris flat (3-4 beds) of mq 35; it is comfortably located on the ground floor, it is easily reachable and suitably equipped for disabled; also this one is equipped with period furniture and with kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.
Flats are also provided with washing machine, fridge, safe, television and bedroom, bathroom and kitchen linen. There are also two available free cradles from babies until two years old.
On the ground floor you can find the reception in a wide room used as common space as well; it is equipped with table with booklet. In this room huge breakfasts and dinners are served; they are the outcome of an accurate search of typical Tuscan dishes, cooked by the owner and served within the family.
For those who use the kitchens that are in the flats, biological cultivations of the vegetable garden and fields are available. The facility is also provided with some equipped external spaces such as those at the entrance where a wide car park is and which can be easily reached by disabled as well. Opposite the loggia the playing area is situated; it is equipped with small gym and children's slide and, divided by a small fence, there are the swimming-pools, one for adults and one for children, with deckchairs, beach umbrellas and sun shower.
North of the facility, a panoramic area located in the shade can be used for lunches and dinners thanks to the big table, barbecue and wood-burning oven.
The family has been tied to the agricultural activity since three generations and thanks to the agritourism their experience is also available for guests; in fact they also give the chance to learn agriculture notions along with the possibility to physically cooperate in the various season jobs.
Vine and olive tree processing is performed throughout the whole year; it starts in February with vine-shoot pruning and vine binding whereas as to the olive tree, its leaves are thinned out through pruning and terrace is cleaned out of cut branches. Thoroughly hand-performed olives collection by nets and small rakes starts at the beginning of November in a period when the valley is coloured by warm shades ranging from pale green of vine leaves to olives grey -green, to the oak intense red.
The most demanding type of cultivation is that of vegetables that, in this facility, vary every year. The facility is located in the beautiful valley of Castiglion Fiorentino municipality, a striking medieval village that is on the top of a hill overlooking two valleys, The Valdichiana and the Val di Chio where the agritourism rises. In the village several festivals take place during the year; the most important ones start with the Holy Easter Week representation, they continue with the Palio dei Rioni in May-June and end with the living Christmas crib that is articulated along the lanes of the historical centre. The various artistic-cultural and gastronomic festivals are not less important; they take place nearly throughout the year.
Val di Chio gives the chance to get in touch with nature from different points of view: from quiet walks to demanding excursions by mountain-bike through the woods and olive groves on several routes.
Along the main Tuscan and Umbrian art towns it is recommended to visit Cortona in particular for its Etrurian tombs and Arezzo for its historical centre and its artistic wealth.
