Barberino Val d'Elsa (Florence)
The agriturismo is part of the Tenuta Bonomonte farm.
The agriturismo, recently renovated, consists of two buildings: San Bartolo and Antiche Mura. It offers accommodation in four apartments of various sizes and types and has a panoramic swimming pool (6x12 metres) and a large garden with tables and chairs.
San Bartolo is a stone building with a main house (which houses the San Bartolo 2 and San Bartolo 3 apartments) and a barn (San Bartolo 1). It lies 100 meters from Porta Fiorentina, the main entrance to the medieval village. One side of the main house overlooks the Via Cassia, once the only road between Florence and Rome.
It is inside a large panoramic courtyard (the farmyard), which was once the setting for the majority of country life and which enjoys a view over the Val d’Elsa, between vineyards and olive groves. The apartments are accessed from here.
Antiche Mura is a building created in the old fortified medieval village walls and is located 200 metres from San Bartolo (Antiche Mura 5).
Barberino Val d'Elsa is located in the heart of Tuscany, in the Chianti hills between Florence and Siena, along the divide between the valleys of the Elsa and Pesa rivers. The town, originally a simple castle, has the typical appearance and structure of the classic medieval walled village, still partly surrounded by walls and towers from the 13th century and embellished with two gates, Porta Fiorentina to the north and Porta Senese, which is still intact, to the south.
Within the city walls: tower-houses, narrow streets (some covered), the main street (Via Francesco da Barberino) connecting the two gates along the route of the ancient Via Cassia (Francigena) overlooked by the ancient houses, Palazzo Pretorio, the hospital for pilgrims built by Taddeo di Cecco da Barberino in 1365 and the San Bartolommeo parish church.
From Barberino, following the road to Certaldo, you can reach the hill where the castle of Semifonte once stood, just past the village of Petrognano. Further on, you can admire the Romanesque church of San Appiano (10th century), one of the oldest in the Florentine countryside.
Florence is easily reached along the Florence-Siena dual carriageway (20 minutes by car).
Other nearby cities: Siena (30 minutes), San Gimignano (15 minutes), Certaldo (20 minutes), Volterra (40 minutes).
The agriturismo is located on a farm with traditional Tuscan produce (Chianti Classico wine and extra virgin olive oil). Produce tasting in the winery.
