località Giuncola,61, Rispescia 58100 Grosseto (Grosseto) Code
La Giuncola is situated on a beautiful stretch of plain between the sea and the Morellino di Scansano hills, at the edge of the Maremma Park, and 7 km from the coast (with beaches also accessible by bike).
In the main farmhouse, you’ll find the restaurant (with two rooms) where Maremma's culinary tradition is brought back to life, prepared using the farm’s own and other zero-mile ingredients. The swimming pool and 3 guesthouses offering 14 rooms (furnished in Arte Povera style and equipped with radiation air conditioning, TVs, minibars and bathrooms with hairdryers) are spread across 3 hectares of grounds in a quiet and peaceful setting. A spacious entrance hall with open fire creates a warm ambience. You’ll also find free Wi-Fi, discounts with partner establishments and secure parking too.
The farmhouse dates back to the mid-1800s, with annexes from later periods, and the architecture blends harmoniously with the building's surroundings. Once owned by Leopold, Duke of Lorraine, the estate was chosen as the headquarters for the Maremma reclamation: the cultivation of fruit and vegetables has made way for cereals that cover the land in vibrant tones during every season of the year. The S. Luca farmhouse offers 6 twin rooms, which can be made adjoining, with wrought iron beds, exposed beams and antique mezzanines. Each room has a private veranda, with terracotta paving and a table and chairs. S. Mario and S. Marco each offer an additional 4 rooms.
Breakfast is a ritual: fresh bread and brioche, warm tones, the sound of teaspoons on porcelain, birdsong in the background, toast with butter...
Part of the agriturismo is dedicated to the farm’s animals, with horses, Maremma cattle, Amiata donkeys, a bull, the little dog and the cats. During summer you can watch the traditional horseback herdsmen in action during a demonstration by ConMar (the Maremma Preservation Consortium).
As well as hiring a bike to cycle to the sea at Marina di Alberese, you can visit Pricipina a Mare, Marina di Grosseto, Castiglione della Pescaia, the Argentario with Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole, Giglio and Giannutri islands, Siena, Sovana, Pitigliano, Saturnia and its spa centre, Capalbio, Sorana, Scansano, Magliano and Massa Marittina. You can also explore the park on horseback, on foot or by carriage, as well as enjoying canoeing. Be sure to visit the local olive presses, wine cellars and dairies.
