The agriturismo
The agriturismo is located in the heart of an old Tuscan farmhouse, nestled in a quiet and picturesque rural landscape in the countryside of the small village of Libbiano, in the province of Pisa. The place is quiet and the accommodation comfortable, all built in harmony with nature.
Menus with seasonal dishes and the freshest ingredients produced on the farm or excellent produce from the short supply chain in the Cecina Valley area. Tastings by appointment only.
The accommodation
The agriturismo is located in the middle of a sunny valley surrounded by woods, in the heart of the La Pietraia organic farm. This is a traditional Tuscan family-run farm, where the main activities involve growing olives and vines, with excellent production, and breeding Pomarancina sheep. The farm produce is the basis for excellent tastings.
The agriturismo consists of a single 18th century farmhouse divided into 5 apartments of various types, surrounded by a large garden. All the apartments have been recently renovated, respecting and enhancing the rustic Tuscan style, with vaulted ceilings, fair-faced walls and terracotta floors. Each apartment has a fully-equipped kitchen, satellite TV, Wi-Fi internet and central heating.
Upstairs are the two larger apartments, La Casa and Il Granaio, both composed of a large kitchen-living room with sofa bed and kitchenette, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which is en-suite. La Casa also has a single bedroom, and there is an old hearth in the kitchen for large barbecues with friends. Downstairs, there are three two-room apartments: La Stalla, equipped with facilities for disabled guests, Il Trinciatoio and La Caciaia.
The pool is located on the edge of an age-old holm oaks wood, overlooking a stream.
Activities and surrounding
The 20-hectare farm with various crops, the vegetable garden, the barn and all the farm animals are some of the main attractions and guided tours are offered. During periods of seasonal work, such as the grape harvest, the olive harvest, mowing and wheat threshing, forms of participation and involvement are organised, with outdoor lunches. It is possible to pick wild produce or go hunting.
The whole area of Libbiano and Micciano and the Monterufoli Nature Reserve is one of the main destinations for lovers of hiking and mountain biking. Visitors can go swimming in the river Adio falls. A guide service is available along the trails.
For horse riding, the agriturismo is partnered with a riding stables just a few miles away (booking required).
The traditional tourist destinations are within easy reach: Volterra is 30 minutes away, Siena and San Gimignano about an hour,Florence an hour and a half,Pisa about an hour and the Etruscan coast about 40 minutes.
