Volterra, city of history and alabaster
It is located on the upper course of the river Era, almost on the border between the provinces of Pisa, Florence and Siena, an ancient village that has always been synonymous with alabaster. It is Volterra.
Volterra is a picturesque town that has kept intact its medieval structure. The color of Volterra, the one that can be appreciated walking through the villages, is soft, the light ocher of the local sandstone, the "panchino", of which the walls of the houses, the large public buildings, the numerous fourteenth-century tower houses, up to the paving of the streets (generally prohibited to cars) are built. On the streets of the center open the stores of the craftsmen of alabaster, which display products that are small works of art.
