The Certano Estate includes rural houses and apartments carved out of a wing of the manor house that have been renovated and furnished for pleasant vacation stays, in a wonderful and peaceful panoramic location yet close to Siena.
Villa Certano, for generations the property of the Baldassarrini Macinelli family, was in the Renaissance owned by the Sienese painter and architect Lorenzo di Pietro Vecchietta. The ancient church of Certano was built in the 13th century above the pre-existing church donated in 730 AD by the Lombard king Liutprando.
There are three cellars: the large vat cellar built in 1906, which is still used for the production of Chianti dei Colli Senesi, the cellar with the old barrels, and the ancient underground cellar dug into the tuff.
The Certano estate includes the main villa with its elegant roof garden and lemon grove, the country houses in a wing of the villa, the cottages once inhabited by farmers, the yoga room, the wine cellar, the old Romanesque church , the porch with the old well, the wood-burning oven, and the park with its majestic old trees.
The 7 country houses are scattered around the property and can accommodate up to 28 people. You can rent one or more houses, or even all of them if you want to organize group vacations, seminars, retreats. They are independent apartments in Tuscan style. They are very spacious and also offer space for larger families .
They have, in addition to rooms, a living room with sofa, fully equipped kitchenette and bathroom with shower and hairdryer.
Some offer free WiFi, washing machine and dishwasher.
At Borgo Villa Certano, you can enjoy views of vineyards, olive groves, orchards and the typical Tuscan countryside. You can book a tour of Borgo Villa Certano that includes a visit to the frescoed rooms on the ground floor of the villa, the Romanesque church and the ancient wine cellar carved into the tuff.
The surrounding lands grow Sangiovese, Merlot, Canaiolo, Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes that ripen on the sunniest slopes. They are still selected at harvest season for the production of Chianti dei Colli Senesi DOCG, Vin Santo, and IGT table wine.
In late autumn with the harvesting and pressing of the olives, excellent extra virgin oils are created.
Only 7 km away is Siena, the medieval city located in the center of Tuscany of Etruscan origin. It is famous for its artistic heritage and for the Palio, the traditional horse race held in Piazza del Campo twice a year with ten of the seventeen Contrade. Siena is surrounded by a wonderful landscape full of vineyards and olive groves. Here and there, among the cypress trees and rolling hills, picturesque towns dot the landscape.
