Agriturismo La Rimbecca is located within the Val d'Orcia Park, declared a Unesco World Heritage Site, in an environment historically marked by the passage of the Via Francigena and the influence of the Salimbeni family, who in the 14th century, had placed fortifications there to defend their possessions, leaving traces that are still legible.
At the center of a natural amphitheater, whose contours are sculpted on the horizon by the profiles of Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia, the Rocca d'Orcia, and the Cetona and Amiata mountains .
The accommodation
The La Rimbecca farm is part of the Lucciolabella nature reserve, a protected area of high natural, historical and cultural value. It consists of hectares of land in which there are habitats and animal and plant species of considerable scientific and conservation interest, the protection of which is of national and European importance. The reserve circumscribes a small corner of the famous landscape of the Crete Senesi, which has its last eastern offshoots here.
At the foot of Rimbecca flows the Formone stream that demarcates the boundary between the municipalities of Castiglione d'Orcia and Radicofani, while not far away is the confluence point between the Orcia River and the Formone stream. Here the Orcia River delineates the transition between the municipality of Castiglione d'Orcia and the municipality of Pienza.
The farm produces mainly cereals and as a product to be sold locally, a good organic olive oil.
The landscape is characterized by the contrast between the dryness of the crete and the wealth of flora and fauna found in the farm's river, stream and lake, located nearby.
The accommodations offered for the stay are independent and spacious, most of them equipped with a fireplace, characterized by terracotta floors and ceilings with exposed wooden beams. In fact, the restoration has paid much attention to respecting the peculiarities of the ancient structure.
The outdoor space is very large with the possibility of eating outside in the open air also taking advantage of the use of a barbecue present inside a small square with panoramic views.
At the service of guests are a parking lot, a ping-pong room, laundry and wi-fi service.
Activities and surrounding
Inside the farm it is possible to enjoy long walks immersed in nature, along the paths that cross the forest and the wide expanses of surrounding fields , until skirting the various streams present, with the possibility of sighting many wild animals.
Just a few kilometers away are the San Filippo thermal baths (8km), the Bagno Vignoni thermal baths (12km), and those of San Cascian dei Bagni.
A panoramic swimming pool open from June to September is available on site.
There is an equestrian center not far away, and bicycles can be rented in neighboring villages.
In the surrounding area there are very interesting villages to visit, such as Pienza, Montepulciano, San Quirco d'Orcia, and Bagno Vignoni, most of them of medieval origin, each with its own peculiar historical architectural beauty of great charm and atmosphere. In these towns one can come in contact with the typical culinary traditions of the place.
