Verona is a city rich in history and culture, to explore and discover. The tour begins in Piazza delle Erbe, a delightful rectangular open space surrounded by ancient homes and tours, with the Market Column, la Berlina, the fountain of Mary of Verona and the Column of Saint Mark at the centre. The path goes on across Piazza dei Signori, closed-in like a court by monumental buildings connected one each other by their arches: right in the centre stands the Monument to Dante. Also to be seen is the Communal Palace, which inside is encompassed by the Lamberti Tower; The Palazzo del Capitanio, a 14th century building restored in the 19th century; The Prefect’s Palace (or Government Palace) with the Sanmicheli Door (1533). Just a few steps away is the Loggia of the Council, constructed around the end of the XV century as the head of the city council; the loggia is joined with its neighbour the House of Mercy. Passing to the right of the Government palace, you reach the little square of the Scaligere Arches, one of the most striking spots in the city, where you find the small Roman church of Saint Mary Antica and the monumental tombs of the lords of Verona. Is also possible to visit the famous Arena and the Romeo and Juliet balcony.
Mantua is a city to explore and discover, rich in many points of interest, such as Piazza Mantegna, a marvellous space dominated by the façade of the Basilica of Saint Andrew, a Renaissance construction erected from the beginning of 1472 on the designs of Leon Battista Alberti; on the inside is the funeral chapel of Andrea Mantegna with a bronze bust of the painter. Sideways to the basilica opens Piazza delle Erbe in an elongated shape, after which you arrive at the Rotonda di San Lorenzo, constructed at the will of Matilde of Canossa and dating back to the XI century. On the left of the rotunda. you can admire the Clock Tower and the Palazzo della Ragione just a short distance away. At the end of the square is the Palazzo del Podestà, next to Broletto Square which is home to the “Tazio Nuvolari” Museum, dedicated to the celebrated motoring legend.
