Predio Pulicaro, 27 - Torre Alfina, Acquapendente 01021 Acquapendente (Viterbo) Code
The farmhouse is located on the central Alfina plain – an undiscovered and unadulterated corner of southern Tuscany, on the Umbrian border. Within easy range of Orvieto and Lake Bolsena, Mount Amiata, Val d’Orcia and the thermal spa town of San Casciano (SI), it is ideally situated for nature lovers.
There are references to the house in 18th Century maps. The word pulicaro probably means a kind of peppermint (pulicara) or it might refer to the presence of the sulfuric thermal waters (bulicame-bulicaio-pulicaio) that flow beneath the land.
Using local traditional materials, Chiara and Marco have carved out a variety of guest rooms, ranging from apartments to double rooms with ensuites that collectively accommodate up to 25 people. Every room or apartment is tastefully furnished, with independent entrance and private bathroom. All of the apartments have kitchens.
Guests have free access to common spaces, where they can spend pleasant moments relaxing, such as in the garden in front of the house, in the dining room with fireplace on the first floor, or in the lounge/dining area carved out of a great stable on the ground floor.
The garden itself is about a hectare (two acres) and is host to an impressive variety of flowers and trees, the most important of which are the majestic and centuries-old mulberry trees. The mulberry trees are particularly impressive during the summer months, and given a variety of comfortable seating areas in their deep shade, provide guests with the ambiance to relax and enjoy leisurely afternoons. There are also mountain bikes, a barbecue and an old wood-burning oven (where they can bake bread, pizza and delicious cakes).
The farm covers about 24 hectares of land, part of which is cultivated with wheat, barley, hay and herbs; and part with olives and an orchard with several ancient plant varieties. Agricultural production is conducted with absolute respect for the natural environment and is focused on olive oil, honey, fruit, vegetables and eggs. Poultry and other farmyard animals are bred in the large enclosed orchard, offering chickens, geese, turkeys, and rabbits free range to graze on an entirely organic diet.
About 10 hectares are given to woodlands where, in certain seasons, one may find wild mushrooms and chestnuts, but which mainly provide the wood, combined with thermal-solar panels, to heat the farmstead.
