A wonderful experience full of scents, colours and flavours! The Vecchia Masseria is a typical and extraordinary rural building, symbol and monument of the rural civilization, dating back to 1856. Surrounded by 2000 hectares of woodland in the archaeological natural park, on the Ganzaria Mountain, it has dominated the Gela Plain for almost 3 centuries.
Vecchia Masseria is both a typical and an extraordinary rural estate, a symbol of and monument to the local peasant community dating back to 1856. Surrounded by 2000 hectares of woodlands inside the archaeological nature reserve of the Ganzaria Mountain, it has overlooked the plain of Gela for almost 3 centuries. The unique historical complex, established in the heart of Sicily by Baron Andrea Guccione from Palermo, was originally built with locally sourced stones and materials and was conceived as a great agricultural complex or masseria, providing accommodation for the farm workers, who were employed in the farming and cultivation of the surrounding lands. Revived in 1996 and expertly restored by the Golina Family, Vecchia Masseria has finally regained its old splendour. Careful and meticulous restoration works began in 2000 and were completed in 2002. In restoring the rural structures and recovering the land the use of environmentally friendly materials with respect for surroundings and history was given utmost importance. Features of the estate past and are present are walls decorated with water-based paintwork, stonework, woodwork, Sicilian cotto tiles, and wrought iron details. Today, Vecchia Masseria is a rural historic monument with 4-star service, entirely family-run and managed by Cavaliere Stefano Golino, who also is the chef de cuisine, and his son Philippe Golino, director of the enterprise.
