“Bannata” comes from the Arabic for “land kissed by the sun” and was the childhood home of founder Nietta Bruno.
Built as a working farm in 1780, Bannata has been handed down through generations, and has been meticulously restored to preserve the rich heritage of the architecture, food and culture of the region.
We are located in the province of Enna, which is the highest region in Italy, and have over 125 hectares of land that you can explore. We are located a short drive from breathtaking historical sites such as the Villa Romana del Casale, Morgantina and Villaggio Bizantino “Canalotto”.
The property offers accommodation in 6 functional rooms all equipped with bathroom, mostly derived from ancient rural environments: the chicken coop, the barn, the house of the shepherds, for a total of 18 beds.
Laura Room (double room): stone walls spaced by white plaster. Museum-peasant structure, originally had the chicken coop and rabbit hutch company. The following are present in the furnishing: a nineteenth century wooden cradle, a “comoda” a “vriutulo”. The bathroom has stone wall.
Clementina Room (double room): the big built-in “stipo”, once used to store household goods, has become a wardrobe. The toilet made of wrought iron, the travelling trunk, the blanket chest where the bread was put away and a eighteenth-century sicilian “buffetta”, are all the furnishings of the room.
Maria Antoinetta Room (double room): It can be considered the main suite of the Masseria both for the elegance of its furniture and for the peculiarity of the high design “tub” placed inside the room. The room has a private bathroom.
Serena Room (double room + 1 single bed): fitted by authentic sicilian furniture, it overlooks to the eighteenth century sheep pens. It is equipped by spacious bathroom, whose bathroom fixtures dating from the early twentieth century.
Clara Room (double room + 1 sofa bed): Room Clara has been renovated recently and marks the arrival in the family of little Clara, granddaughter of the owner of the company. Large, bright, furnished with more contemporary Sicilian antiques and other style, overlooking the palm garden. It has a bathroom.
Cocò Room (double room + 2 sofa bed): obtained from the stable reserved for donkeys and calves. The bed is placed inside the alcove where the farmers rested. The bathroom, originally storage for jars containing oil, is particular for having a double shower.
The structure has a spacious swimming pool surrounded by green and many shaded corners guarantee precious moments of relax and a private outdoor parking. We accept pets. Owner or receptionists always present. The farm is equipped for the creation of banquets, conferences and business meetings.
Our cuisine takes its inspiration from the traditional cuisine of Enna. The list of fare is the result of a selection made from ancient recipes of the owner of aristocratic cuisine and popular dishes.For the preparation of meals we use almost exclusively organic products from our farm.
The farm produces wheat, legumes, vegetables, dried fruits, olive oil and eucalyptus honey.
The farm offers its guests the opportunity to participate in various cultural activities for years linked to his name: film exhibitions, concerts, jazz concerts, exhibitions and contemporary art events, performances of theater and dance, book presentations and meetings with characters in the world of international culture.
First day
Visit to the mosaics of the Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina, UNESCO heritage.
Return to the masseria. In the afternoon visit to the ancient city of Piazza Armerina, rich of churches and historical monuments and visits “delicius” to the famous bakeries of the city.
Second day
Visit to the Archaeological Museum of Aidone and the remains of the Sicilian city of Morgantina. Return to the masseria. Participation, depending on the time, its various daily activities: agricultural, cultural, etc.
Third day
Visit to Floristella Mineral Park, a rare example of industrial archeology. Return to the masseria. In the afternoon visit to the city of Enna: the Lombardia castle, the Rock of Ceres, the Duomo, the Archaeological Museum, the Tower of Frederick, the sources of the Nymphs.
Fourth day
Visit to the natural reserves of Rossomanno with “cunvintazzu” and hums with its “enchanted stones”. The masseria Bannata, on request, prepares for his guests take away baskets for a breakfast to eat in the places to visit. Return in the late afternoon.
Fifth day
Visit to the dam Nicoletti at the Nautical Club “Three Lakes” with the possibility of sports (water skiing, canoeing, sailing, mountain biking, archery, ree-climbing, bird watching). Guided tour of the establishment of “Pandittaino” exemplary for its ability to combine a handicraft production with the industrial one.
Day six
Visit to Calascibetta known for Necropolis of Realmese and the Byzantine village. Visit to a local cheese factory to watch the production of the traditional cheese “piacentino ennese” DPO, ricotta and pecorino cheese hinterland.
Day seven
Optional lessons in the garden of the masseria Bannata.
Traditional cooking classes dell’ennese in the masseria, also in english language.
