Compiano (Parma)
This certified organic farm is located in Compiano, in the hills of the Taro Valley. Established in 2012, the name of the farm is “Azienda Agricola Ritorno al Futuro” – or “Back to the Future Farm” – a name which reflects the farm’s mission to link the concepts of today (organic architecture) with the rural traditions of the past.
The owners' desire is to rediscover the value of things, reclaiming the relationship between Mother Earth and Man, savouring the experience of ploughing, sowing, growing and harvesting fruit, favouring nature, respecting its rhythms.
The agriturismo opened in 2014, and the complex was built in keeping using green architecture methods and materials (wood).
The decision to operate organically was made for primarily for ethical reasons as opposed to production.
The farm rears animals and cultivates vegetables and crops. The restaurant serves dishes prepared with passion and skill: in the kitchen are used ingredients from the farm itself or carefully selected local producers. Guests can enjoy the estate’s own cured meats (salami, culatello, coppa, etc), matured in natural cellars.
The aim is to rediscover the traditional dishes of Emilia Romagna and Ligurian, forgotten cuisine. Sample the famous Taro Valley trout, farmed in Boschetto di Albareto, and the PGI Borgotaro porcini mushrooms.
The wine cellar is well-stocked with both local wines and the great traditional Italian classics (Tuscan Chiantis, Nebbiolo and Barbaresco from Piedmont, Sicilian reds and Trento whites), as well as champagnes by smaller producers.
Guests can enjoy cookery classes and tasting sessions. The estate is located halfway between the towns of Borgo Val di Taro and Bedonia (both 10 km away) – be sure to pay them a visit.
Nearby you’ll find a wealth of hamlets and enchanting little villages such as Borgotaro and Berceto, as well as stunning castles (Compiano, 4 km and Bardi, 18 km). An hour takes you to Sestri Levante, Tigullio’s pearl, and in a little over an hour and a half you’ll find yourself at the heart of the Cinque Terre, a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Depending on the season, you can also enjoy bathing in Taro, with its natural pools and beaches. You’ll find trekking routes for all abilities through the surrounding mountains, with passionate expert guides available from the Trekking Taro Ceno group.
