Calenzano (Florence)
The small village is located in Calenzano, in the hills surrounding Florence (15 km from the city). Its centuries old history started in 543 AD, when the lands in the area were given as a gift to the Roman Legionary Vezio. The natural area was soon thereafter cultivated for olives, today a protected area.
The village has a typical Tuscan character with alberese white stone homes. In the year 1000 a tower was built as part of a system to defend the area of Florence (only the original arched gateway in the reception area with a portion of the walls in the guest accommodations still exist today).
The organic farm was founded in 1998 and produces fruit, vegetables, oil and aromatic herbs. The farm also raises courtyard animals and hens, producing high quality eggs, milk and cheeses. It also produces jams, aromatic salts and herbal teas, which can be purchased by guests, in addition to extra virgin olive oil, liqueurs, grappa and artisan beer.
The restaurant uses only in season raw ingredients, most of which are from the farm, serving a traditional Tuscan menu. The farm also offers large rooms for ceremonies and meetings, with spacious outdoor areas.
Accomodation is provided in 2 suites with hand-restored antique furniture by the owners of the farm, rod iron beds, exposed stone walls, and vaulted brick ceilings. Breakfast is also served in the suites.
The position of the farm is ideal for arriving in Florence in only a few minutes, or for excursions to the nearby countryside, exploring the delicious food and wine in the area.
