Via di Gricigliano 58, Pontassieve 50069 Pontassieve (Florence)
The holiday farm is immersed in the splendid countryside of the Florentine hills and looks out over an immense valley. The 14th century house and its barn have been completely renovated in the original style and are flanked by olive-groves, vineyards and fruit trees. Close by there is a swimming-pool surrounded by secular olive trees. This farm house is a small family-run agricultural business and holiday farm which can accomodate up to 12 people. Traditional Tuscan crops are still cultivated on the hills surrounding the farmhouse. At dinner typical farm products produced on the spot, such as extra virgin olive oil, wine, fruit and home-grown vegetables can be tasted.
The original peasant character has been rigorously maintained in the renovation work, which was very attentive to attention to detail: some of the exposed stone walls have been retained, as have the chestnut beams and old terracotta tiles. The old terracotta floor was recovered to tile most of the complex. The exteriors have been paved with original local stones recreating the authentic environment of the farmyard.
The charming swimming pool surrounded by centuries-old olive trees was built in total respect of the environmental context.
Next to the barn, under the loggia, there is the old wood-burning oven fully functional where in summer are cooked the typical dishes and the famous pizza of the Casale.
On the ground floor, in the hall or on the panoramic veranda, breakfast and dinner are served.
With total respect for nature and the surrounding environment, alternative systems have been adopted to save energy and exploit natural resources, making the farmhouse completely autonomous
. The facility is equipped
with solar energy panels for hot water production.
The wood boiler is used to heat the rooms and to produce hot water on rainy days. Wood is sourced from the farm's forest and from pruning the olive grove and fruit trees.
The 'innovative photovoltaic system produces up to 9 kw and is sufficient for the needs of the facility. A spring that produces 12000 liters per day allows guests to enjoy natural and genuine water. Separate collection within the farm allows the recovery of organic waste from the kitchen, which mixed with pruning residues generate a good soil for the plants we grow.
The rooms available to guests have retained the names of the various activities, processing and preservation, that were carried out in ancient times after the products harvested in the fields were transported to the farmhouse.
Each room has heating and a private bathroom:
The Fienile is a spacious room located on the ground floor overlooking the ancient pergola, equipped with a lovely and characteristic loft. Prepared to accommodate disabled guests.
The Fienile Alto is located in the same building and thanks to its 23 square meters offers the possibility of a comfortable living room for families; the very high ceiling with exposed beams, an ultra-century-old handmade terracotta floor and other details make the accommodation unique and cozy.
On the ground floor of the farmhouse is the Tinaia, a large and very bright double bedroom.
Next to it we find theOrciaia, very intimate, with a unique warmth and flavor; also in this room is guaranteed access for disabled guests
Also on the ground floor are the reception, dining room, kitchen and wine cellar.
Dinner is served under the loggia, by candlelight, in a context of harmonies and natural views where you can appreciate a panorama with endless perspectives.
On the second floor we find 3 large rooms: the Piccionaia, consisting of 2 rooms, the Granaio and the Vinsantiera. All accommodations are larger than 20 square meters and from which you can glimpse corners of nature and breathtaking views.
Separate from the complex, in absolute silence and nestled among the farm's olive groves is the Ulivi apartment, consisting of 2 rooms, a large bathroom and a reserved green space.
In addition to its strongly eco-friendly character, the property has been classified with 4 Sunflowers by the Tuscany region.
Situated only twenty minutes from one of the world's most beautiful cities of art: Florence with the Ponte Vecchio, Duomo and the Galleria degli Uffizi.
Fiesole as well is only a stone's throw away. A visit to this charming town is a must, both for its Etruscan and Roman remains and for its monuments such as the Cathedral, the Church and Convent of San Domenico, founded in 1400, as for the Badia Fiesolana where an elegant early renaissance cloister has been preserved.
The surrounding hills offer various walking opportunities with well signposted, graded walks, hiking- and biking tracks for relaxing excursions. A short trip takes to the monastery at Montesenario, to the 12th century sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso and numerous other places of historical interest where it is possible to find traces of a thousand-year heritage.
For those who are keen on horse-riding, the Corte Chiarese Riding Centre, only a few kilometres away at Bivigliano, offers both private lessons and fantastic rides through the beautiful Florentine hills.
