Roccamorice (Pescara) Code
The farm holiday is situated in the Majella National park, at an altitude of 700m and approximately 3km from Roccamorice – an ancient stone village built atop a rocky crest, and protected at all sides by the breathtaking canyon. The farm holiday takes its name from a dry wall stone hut found within its grounds. The ancient “tholos”, structure, once a pastoral shelter, is used today for various farm and teaching activities, and also, upon request, as a very original dining area.
The farm has two houses in white stone of the Majella, dating to the early '900. Since its restructuring, we obtained seven rooms, a restaurant that overlooks a large arcade and a quiet room.
The rooms are simple and omfortable. Almost all have a wonderful view on the Majella and Morrone.
The restaurant entirely of stone with the features vaulted is very cozy and charming. All of the green spaces that encircle the farm, the swings, table tennis area and small library are available to our guests. Our cuisine is the result of a great appreciation of the relationship between man and the environment; caring especially for the Mediterranean diet and delicately recreating the flavours of ancient Abbuzzesi recipes, now forgotten in time. The wild herbs of our mountain: borage, cacigni, matroni, orapi, mixed chicory, acacia flowers, rose petals; home made pastas with ancient flour: “sagne”, “corde di chiochie”, “taccozze”, “ravioli”, “chitarra”, “pappardelle”, “crepes di Ricotta”; our meats: lamb, sheep, kid (goat), black pig, rabbit, chicken and a variety of game; our cheeses: pecorino - fresh and matured, ricotta cheese with goat’s milk, giuncata, pecorino cream, ricotta to enjoy warm with sugar or cinnamon; our sweets: “parrozzo”, “nevole” made using the traditional “forged by hand” iron implements, tarts with our own jams, fruit desserts. The agriturism participates in the initiative, “diversity in cooking” certified by PanParks, and has been by accredited by Gambero Rosso.
The farm works in cooperation with the Majella National Park to adhere to two projects. The first one promotes free-range farming practices and the protection of endemic farm animals. The second addresses the Park’s desire to recover, preserve and increase the value of the indigenous agriculture, through the reintroduction of grains, cereals and plants native to the area. The farm extends over an area of more than 70 hectares, located mainly within the Majella National Park, and primarily cultivates “farro” (spelt), “grano solina” (solina wheat) and ancient fruit orchards through organic methods. Goats and sheep are reared on the farm, making possible the production of an excellent selection of dairy products.
Our products Farro pasta, soft grain solina pasta, farro flour, solina flour, solina crackers, farro beans, farro polenta (puls romana), pecorino cream, goat’s cheese and ricotta, bread, preserves and jams.
The farm holiday is ideal for anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature, and is the perfect base for trekking, walking, skiing, making guided or free excursions and visiting the areas of naturalistic interest and spas nearby. For anyone with a passion for free climbing there is the “parete dell’orso”(the “bear” wall). Local areas of historical significance include the Celestinian hermitages of S.Spirito and S.Bartolomeo, and the sea can also be reached in less than an hour. Guided visits can be arranged for our guests upon request
