Surrounded by the colors and scents of the Salento countryside, just 2 km from the charming historic center of Otranto and the sea, it covers 20 hectares occupied by olive groves, cultivated fields and Mediterranean scrub.
Born 30 years ago from the Merico family's love for the land and its roots, it is a multifunctional farm that produces extra virgin olive oil and brings together agriculture, catering, environmental and food education, and educational activities in a serene and peaceful environment.
The farm also provides guests with a lovely swimming pool, equipped with a whirlpool and a large solarium, where it will be easy to regenerate body and mind from the constant stresses of modern life.
Guests can choose different types of accommodations: rooms with bathrooms, independent bungalows nestled in the olive grove or accessorized apartments/bungalows overlooking the outdoor swimming pool for shared use, equipped with a salt disinfection system and a large solarium.
Breakfast is prepared with milk fresh from the cows and pies with homemade jams.
Guests can visit the pig and cow farm (assisting with milking) and the mini-zoo with ponies, donkeys, horses, Tibetan goats, swans, guinea fowl, pheasants, peacocks, ostriches, deer and many other animals. The educational farm in the spring offers educational workshops for children. In fact, the farm is happy to host school groups who want to experience a day of rediscovering ancient agricultural traditions and having fun, in close contact with nature and farm animals.The message intended to be conveyed to the children is the discovery of the countryside, the knowledge of plants and animals, the values of natural agriculture, the organization of agricultural work, the techniques of processing products and the discovery of genuine flavors. In addition, this type of activity allows young people to appreciate the importance of organic farming to preserve and improve the well-being of the body.
Oviculture is the farm's specialty. The various stages, from olive harvesting to milling to bottling and packaging, take place on the farm with a private mill. The type of harvesting, milling and the blend of two wonderful varieties of olives, Leccina and Favolosa, give theoil a golden color with emerald green highlights, a sweet, fine taste and a slightly spicy aftertaste. Sale is possible.
In addition to olive oil, the products that can be found on the farm are those grown in the vegetable garden: fruits, vegetables, and greens, which are used in the preparation of typical dishes.Vast then is the variety of cheeses, jams, digestives such as limoncello, wild orange, myrtle, basil, olive and many others, prepared by hand.
Otranto is a renowned tourist destination: ancient and rich in history, it faces the Adriatic Sea and offers as much as 25 km of coastline, including sandy shores and sheer cliffs. Recommended excursions along the Otranto-Santa Maria di Leuca Coastal Park, Alimini Lakes, Baia delle Orte with its bauxite lake, Porto Badisco, Santa Cesarea Terme, Castro and the Zinzulusa Caves, Lecce.
